Guests are required to keep feet covered during flights
CALGARY, AB, April 1, 2026 /CNW/ - With warm weather on the horizon, WestJet is underlining its in-flight footwear expectations and putting a ban on bare feet. Guests are required to keep shoes, socks, slippers or other forms of foot coverage on at all times, including during takeoff, landing. and while moving about the cabin.
"Guests should fly with confidence knowing they won't encounter anyone else's bare piggies in flight," said Steph Ng, Vice-President, Brand and Marketing, WestJet Group. "The barefoot ban applies to all guests at all times, including when feet are at rest, in motion or simply enjoying the ride."
Any bare feet that do appear will be asked to return immediately to a covered state.
"Whether enjoying a snack, settling in for a nap or engaging in surprisingly deep personal reflection, guests are asked to keep their feet fully covered for the duration of the flight," Ng said.
For 30 years, we've been helping Canadians travel the world—and observing feet do remarkable things along the way. In the spirit of both, and April Fool's Day, you can watch our barefoot ban video and learn more at westjet.com/april-fools.
And yes—for the record—proper footwear has always been required on board.
